Match Penalties

In all instances except when coincident key or match penalties are assessed. Normally a minor USA Hockey rules call for a big and a game misconduct for grabbing and holding a facemask or visor. This penalty can be assessed for actions which include things like the consumption of alcohol prior or during the game. A player who receives a main penalty will stay off the ice for 5 minutes of play for the duration of which his group will be brief-handed. Falling to the ice soon after a hit, exaggerating the impact of the hit in an attempt to draw a penalty for the opposing team.

Any player who is dismissed twice for stick infractions, boarding or checking from behind, or dismissed 3 times for any reason, in a single NHL common season incurs an automatic 1-match ban, and further discipline is feasible for subsequent ejections. A major penalty cannot end early even if a objective is scored against the quick-handed group, unless the goal is scored throughout an overtime period (which ends the game). A major penalty is a stronger degree of penalty for a more serious infraction of the rules than a minor.
